I found this in the August 2016 issue of GQ magazine.
It comes from David Chang as part of his BBQ Short Rib recipe.

Ingredients
- ½ Cup Soy Sauce
- ¼ Cup Water
- ⅓ Cup Brown Sugar
- ½ Cup Apple Juice
- 1 Teaspoon Sesame Oil
- 1 Teaspoon course Black Pepper
- 1 Medium Onion, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 Bunch Scallions, roughly chopped
- 6 Garlic cloves, peeled and minced
- 1 Small chunk of Ginger, peeled and minced
Procedure
- Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for a minium of 1 hour
